Interest Group

Photo was taken before COVID-19

Launched on 19th September 2020, the Orienteering Interest Group (IG) is a monthly event for Singaporeans to try out our sport.

Scan the QR code to register!

Why is this interest group created?

We realised that many Singaporean do not understand what defines orienteering (or sport navigation). Most of us wrongly associate navigation to their moments in the military or back country trekking. We want to change this perception and show the community that navigation is cool, fun and educational!

Who is this interest group for?

Anyone! From beginners to elites you are welcome. Children and toddlers are welcome too! (with the company of an adult)

What will be I doing at each session?

You will be given a map with a set course / checkpoint to find in the park. These courses range from easy to difficult and our coaches will be there to give you some pro-tips to find your way around. Once you are out, it is just you and the map. You may also grab a friend or family to go along with you.

Each month, we will feature a different theme of training for you to understand the different skillset behind our sport.

How do I sign up?

You are required to sign up for each month’s IG via the link on our Facebook event page. In light of current Safe-distancing, we are limited to a max of 40 pax.

This Orienteering IG will run on the following schedule:

  • 2nd Saturday of the month at Passionwave Jurong Lake Gardens (starting Dec 2020)
  • 3rd Saturday of the month at ActiveSG Pasir Ris Sport Center.

Each session will run from 0930am to 1130am.

Cancellation of WRE / Singapore Orienteering League 2020

04.01.2020 by ofs //

Dear Orienteering Community,

With a very heavy heart, we have decided that our inaugural World Ranking Event (WRE) scheduled for 12-14 June 2020 is to be cancelled.
All further community engagements in the year of 2020 will also be removed and subjected to review.

This decision has been a tough one to bear as the idea of a WRE is to allow Singaporeans to experience a bigger competition stage and thus bringing more people who want to try orienteering. Yet above all, the well being of all athletes are our utmost responsibility on top of all these federation’s pursuit.

As a community, we hope that you will ride past this wave with us and we will emerge stronger. We are looking forward in having you guys back to conquer your own podium on the courses we are about to set and also to hear those shouts of euphoria when you clock in on the “Finish” control. We would also empower all of you reading this to follow, like, share about us on Facebook / Instagram (@OrienteeringSG) because information spreads faster with more audience. (No puns intended)
Our prayers also goes out to everyone in the sports and outdoor family — May all things be smooth and let’s stay strong together!

Stay Safe Everyone. #orienteeringsg

Cancellation of April’s Singapore Orienteering League 1

03.07.2020 by ofs //

**Update to post: Training runs as specified in this post are cancelled in line with the circuit breaker measures.

With the outbreak of the Coronavirus situation in Singapore, we have decided to cancel the first series event of our local league. This decision was made so as to reduce the risk of prolonged contact between humans.

In place of the cancelled event, we will be introducing Bi-weekly training runs. These runs will be a 1x weekend training (either Saturday or Sunday) and each session will only be confirmed 2 weeks prior to its proposed date. The reason behind this is for us to properly monitor the changes in the outbreak situation and only commit for a training run when it is advised to do so.

These are the tentative dates:

We urge everyone to follow us on our social media pages at Orienteering Federation of Singapore for the latest updates.

Meantime, let’s all stay positive and continue for your own daily dose of fitness.
